Legalize Marijuana!

I don’t see a problem with the legalization of marijuana. If anything it’s a solution. There are plenty of illnesses it treats and it is far less harmful than other medication. I have family that has taken harsh narcotics to deal with pain. That’s not the answer. People become dependent on these drugs even after the pain has subsided. These “legal” drugs actually do more harm than good. They affect the body in many more ways than just dulling the pain. Marijuana dulls pain and in some cases cure’s people. My former employer was diagnosed with lymphoma and went through chemo therapy. Chemo is a killer. Although it might kill some cancer cells it also destroys other cells that are essential for survival. She only lasted for six months after she was diagnosed. I don’t believe it was the cancer that killed her but the treatment. It caused her to lose her appetite and she became very skinny and frail because she couldn’t hold any food down. I know from experience that smoking makes you hungry. I’m not saying I smoke regularly but it didn’t ruin my life when I did. It increases appetite. If the doctors had the option to prescribe marijuana people who are on chemo therapy could use marijuana to get their appetite back. There was a story all over the news about a month or two ago about a little boy from Minnesota who had cancer but he didn’t want to go through chemo again. After the first treatment he said that he’d rather die than to have to go through the therapy again. His family wanted to experiment with unconventional medicine and the doctors got the courts involved. The court ruled against the family and the boy was to undergo court ordered chemo therapy. The boy’s mother figured she had no other choice but to flee and try to get her son out of the country to get alternative treatment. There was a nationwide manhunt and after a couple of weeks the mother turned herself in. Nobody knows what kind of treatment she wanted for her son but there’s no doubt in my mind that she loves her son very much. We as a people should have the right to choose what kind of treatment we receive. If we had more options it would make the world of difference. We need to spend more money on the research and development of cannabis as an alternative treatment for all diseases. There are alot of money wasted on border patrol to find illegal narcotics coming across the border. I agree with busting people trying to cross meth over but if marijuana was legal these agents can concentrate on just the meth. Meth is an epidemic and a lot of it is coming from outside the country.

I find it ridiculous that doctors can prescribe opium based painkillers, but people can’t smoke marijuana for pain.  How many people’s lives have been affected by prescription drug addiction?  People who would never have become drug addicts become addicted to vicodin because it is a narcotic.  It is a dangerously addictive narcotic with many negative side effects.  I saw a headline today about FDA advisors saying to take vicodin and percocet off the market because of all the health problems these drugs cause.  If I ever have to go through chemo again, you can be sure I will use marijuana for the pain and nausea related to chemo.

 Aimee,

You have gone through chemo? How long ago? What type of cancer?
